Flag of Monaco
The flag of Monaco is composed of two equally wide horizontal stripes – the upper one is red and the lower one is white. These colors are taken from the coat of arms of the Genoese Grimaldi family, which dates back to the 14th century. After the French Revolution, the Principality of Monaco fell to the French, later became part of the Kingdom of Sardinia, and finally became part of France again in 1861, but this time as an independent state. The flag was adopted on 4 April 1881 and is very similar to the flag of Indonesia, the dimensions of which are only slightly different. Monaco even protested (unsuccessfully) in 1945 against the adoption of the Indonesian flag because of its excessive resemblance to the Monaco flag.
The Principality of Monaco is a state in Western Europe. It is surrounded by France on the Mediterranean coast. See Monaco Location on World Map. The distinction between the state and the city of Monaco is purely theoretical, the state consists de facto only of the city. With its very small area, Monaco is the smallest state in the world after Vatican City, but with 16,410 residents per km² it has the highest population density in the world. In Monaco there has been no direct tax liability for private individuals since 1869. The large proportion of wealthy immigrants has made the principality a symbol of luxury and wealth.
Monaco lives mainly from VAT. Gambling now accounts for less than 5%, after the Second World War it was still 70%. In terms of trade policy, Monaco belongs to France. The agreements concluded by France within the European Union do not automatically apply to Monaco.

Monaco: Monaco City
We are talking about the state of Monaco, but also about the city of Monaco at the same time. According to Abbreviation Finder, Monaco is a city-state. And what is the name of the capital of Monaco? Nothing, because Monaco has no capital. It’s actually quite simple, because hardly any difference is made. The administration and government of the country are located in Monaco-Ville. It is located on a steep rock ledge, one of the foothills of the French Maritime Alps. Here is also the castle of the Prince of Grimald I, the old part of the city and the ocean- themed museum.
