The former empire in northeast Africa is the cradle of an ancient culture that took over Orthodox Christianity in the 4th century. Ethiopia looks back on a tradition that goes back thousands of years. It is not only considered the cradle of humanity, but also the country of origin of coffee. Due to its Christian traditions and historical isolation, it is culturally clearly different from the states of Black Africa.
Since the separation of Eritrea in 1993, it has been a landlocked country with no direct access to the Red Sea. Ethiopia’s foreign trade essentially consists of the export of coffee. Germany is the largest importer of Ethiopian coffee.

Ethiopia: Addis Ababa
The capital of Ethiopia is located exactly in the middle of the country. It lies at a tremendous height of 2200 to 3000 meters and is the third highest capital in the world. By the way, the highest capital is Quito in Ecuador at an altitude of 2850 meters. Addis Ababa is not only politically the capital, but also the economic center of the country. More than three million people live here.
Here modernity and poverty live side by side. The city is home to luxury hotels, shopping malls, the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, schools, museums and much more. On the one hand, Addis Ababa is one of the most modern cities in Africa and a cosmopolitan city. On the other hand, there are many poor people living here.
