Flag of Cambodia

The current flag of Cambodia was adopted in 1993 and consists of two blue and one red central stripe, on which is depicted the white silhouette of the Angkor Wat temple. This temple is considered one of the biggest landmarks of Cambodia and its motif is meant to symbolize the Khmer dynasty dating back to the 12th century. The individual towers of the temple are meant to resemble the abode of the Hindu gods – Mount Meru. The blue stripes of the flag indicate dignity, the red stripe represents the nation, and the white color refers to the power of religion. Until 1989, a flag with a yellow outline of the temple on a red sheet was used, but after the end of the civil war and the re-establishment of the monarchy, in 1993 King Sihanouk was inclined to use the current flag.

Cambodia Flag

Cambodia is located in Southeast Asia on the Gulf of Thailand. It borders Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. See Cambodia Location on World Map. The very eventful history of Cambodia spans a period of almost 1200 years. It ranges from the cultural and political heyday of the Khmer Empire (9th to 15th centuries) with Angkor as the center, through the colonial rule of the French (1863-1945) and the terrible regime of the Khmer Rouge (1975-1979) to the present still very young democracy.
